Postcards from Malvern

Malvern from Victorian times onwards received many visitors. Originally they came for the water cure, but also from Edwardian times onwards they came because it was a pleasant place to visit, either to 'take the waters' or to walk the hills. Like any other tourist centre visitors would send postcards to family and friends to show them what a wonderful time they were having. The Golden Age for the sending of postcards was probably between 1907 and 1915 and most of these postcards were sent from Malvern during this period. We are indebted to Gordon Taylor for allowing us to select these from his collection and should anyone wish to offer any that we do not have, we would be pleased to receive them.

These are some of the humorous cards sent from Malvern in the first decade of the 20th Century.
They feature the hills but particularly the donkeys on which many were conveyed to the top.
